NCAA DIVISION II REGIONAL RANKINGS
INDIANAPOLIS -- The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team has been placed at No. 7 in the second official NCAA Division II West Region Rankings released Wednesday by the NCAA.
Should the Broncos (15-9) be one of the Top 8 teams in the West Region when the 64-team NCAA tournament field is announced on Mar. 5, CPP will have qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the 28th time in program history, and for the third time in the last four seasons. The last time the Broncos qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2020, they flew to Hawaii, only to turn around 36 hours later and fly home due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent cancelation of the postseason.
The announcement of the 2023 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championship Tournament will come via a live selection show at NCAA.com on Sunday, Mar. 5 at 7:30 pm. The NCAA will release updated regional rankings
at NCAA.com every Wednesday afternoon leading up to the selection show in three weeks.
Cal State Dominguez Hills (25-1) earned the top spot in this week's West Region rankings and is in line to host the West Regional should the Toros remain at No. 1 the rest of the way. Western Washington (21-3) captured the No. 2 spot ahead of Cal State San Marcos (20-4) and Montana State Billings (22-5) in No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. Central Washington (19-6) sits at No. 5, followed by Cal State LA (17-8) at No. 6 with CPP at No. 7 and Azusa Pacific (22-4) at No. 8. On the outside looking in is No. 9 Chico State (18-8) and No. 10 Seattle Pacific (13-11).
While Cal Poly Pomona clinched one of six spots in the upcoming CCAA Tournament with the victory at Cal Poly Humboldt last Saturday, the Broncos will wrap up the regular season at home this weekend hosting Stanislaus State on Thursday (5:30 pm) and Chico State on Saturday (1:00 pm). CPP currently sits in a tie for fifth place in the CCAA standings entering the weekend.
The 2023 CCAA Basketball Tournament is set for Mar. 2-4 at Fitzpatrick Arena on the campus of Stanislaus State in Turlock while the NCAA Division II West Regional Tournament will take place the following weekend on Mar. 10-13 at a site yet to be determined. The winner of the West Regional will advance to the Elite Eight in St. Joseph, Missouri on Mar. 20-22 and the National Championship game will be contested alongside the Division I Final Four festivities in Dallas, Texas on Apr. 1.
