POMONA – The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team overcame a seven-point deficit in the final six minutes of regulation to capture a 56-53 victory over Chico State on Senior Day at Kellogg Arena in Pomona.
The Broncos (16-9, 14-8 CCAA) capture the No. 4 seed in next week's 2023 CCAA Basketball Tournament and will face the No. 5 seed Wildcats (18-10, 14-8 CCAA) again on Thursday in the opening round at Fitzpatrick Arena in Turlock. Tip off is set for 8:00 pm.

CPP scored the first nine points of the contest and jumped out to its largest lead of the day (10 points) at 15-5 midway through the first quarter. Chico battled back and would eventually take a 50-43 lead when the Wildcats' Makenzi Laporte hit a three-pointer with 6:21 to play in the game. From that point on, the Broncos went on a 13-3 run with scoring contributions from five different players while holding the Wildcats to just 1 of 9 shooting (0-4 from three-point range) in the final six minutes.
In the end,
Breanne Ha registered a season-high 19 points on 7 of 11 shooting, including 3 of 7 from long range.
Alicia Jones and
Kalaya Buggs both chipped in with a double-double, 13 points and 12 rebounds for Jones and 11 points and 10 rebounds for Buggs.
Ally Bates tallied seven points and seven rebounds in the win.
The Broncos were 20 of 62 from the floor (32.3 percent) and the Wildcats were just 19 of 65 (29.2 percent).
