OFFICIAL RESULTS
IRVINE, Calif. – In the final tuneup before next weekend's CCAA Track and Field Championships in San Marcos, the 14th-ranked Cal Poly Pomona men's track and field team saw several improvements, including some record book edits and 12 new personal records Friday and Saturday at the Steve Scott Invitational hosted by UC Irvine.
Highlighting the weekend was
Kailen Smith, who jumped into No. 2 all-time at CPP with a personal-best 2.11m mark in the High Jump on his first attempt at the height on Saturday. It is the 12th-highest mark in Division II this season, and will take it into the CCAA Championships next week as the best mark in the conference.
The Broncos will look to defend its 2022 title when the CCAA Championships get underway Thursday through Saturday on the campus of Cal State San Marcos.
RECORD BOOK EDITS
- Daniel Echeveste (4:11.10) and Evan Franco (4:13.60) planted themselves in the program's Top 10 Record Book for the Mile; Echeveste is now No. 4 all-time and Franco is No. 8. The last time any Cal Poly Pomona men's track and field student-athlete broke into the program's Top 10 in the Mile was 36 years ago in 1987.
- Dom Navarrette-Perez also topped two career-highs in the Discus (52.25m) and Hammer (51.59m). His Discus throw now leads the CCAA, is ranked No. 17 in Division II this spring and moves into No. 5 all-time at CPP. His Hammer throw is No. 4 in the CCAA in 2023.
PERSONAL RECORDS
- Jalen Jenkins set a new personal-best in the 400 meters, running a 48.95 on Saturday, just 0.06 faster than his previous best of 49.01 from a year ago. His new PR is the 10th fastest in the CCAA this season.
- Chris Razo ran the 800 meter for the first time in his career, crossing the line in 2:00.48.
- Jacob Spellman ran a 2:02.13 in the 800 meters, to take 0.22 off his career-best time.
- Justin Cardoza bested his PR in the Long Jump with a 6.81m leap, topping his previous-best of 6.77m, set three weeks ago.
- Ian Strode recorded his first-ever mark in the High Jump after two previous attempts this season, getting over the 1.81m bar on his first try on Saturday.
- Thomas Tuff set a pair of personal records this weekend, throwing the Discus 45.16m and swinging the Hammer 45.72m.
- Jared Rhett set new personal-bests in both the Discus (43.05m) and the Hammer (48.38m).
- Khai Redd earned a personal-best in the Discus with a toss of 46.12m.

- Aaron May's season's-best throw of 53.66m in the Hammer is now ranked second in the CCAA.
