POMONA -- Cal Poly Pomona's
Kailen Smith has been named the CCAA Men's Field Athlete of the Week for the week of Apr. 24-20.
Kailen Smith jumped into No. 2 all-time at Cal Poly Pomona with a personal-best and NCAA provisional-qualifying 6-11 (2.11m) mark in the high jump on his first attempt at the height on Saturday at the Steve Scott Invitational.
It is the 12th-highest mark in NCAA Division II this season, and he will take it into the CCAA Championships next week as the best mark in the conference.
The sophomore from Chino Hills is the fourth different Bronco to collect CCAA Field Athlete of the Week honors in 2023. He joins
Matteo Madrassi (pole vault),
Gerwin de Haan (decathlon) and Dom Navarrette (throws).
Smith and the rest of his Cal Poly Pomona teammates will travel to the 2023 CCAA Men's and Women's Track & Field Championships this week at San Marcos (May 4-6). The meet starts on Thursday, May 4, with the multi-events.
