PUEBLO, Colo. -- The Cal Poly Pomona men's and women's track and field teams combined to earn 13 All-America awards as the Broncos wrapped up the 2023 NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl in Pueblo, Colo.
Ayana Fields ran four races in a span of just four hours on Saturday, earning four All-America awards and scoring 9.25 points of the CPP women's 19 points in the meet for a 16th-place finish nationally.
Jade De Souza accounted for six points with her third-place finish and another school record in the Triple Jump. The rest of the points come from a seventh place finish in the 4x100 Relay and a sixth place finish in the 4x400 Relay.
Ayana ran a 53.48 in the Women's 400 Meters to place fourth, then came back 90 minutes later and delivered a fourth place finish in the Women's 200 Meters with a time of 23.18. She was also with
Jaelyn Thomas,
Kelsey Ehinlaiye and
Yuna Queniat for the seventh place finish in the 4x100 Relay with a time of 45.27, then ended the weekend alongside Thomas, Queniat and
Ari Milton in the 4x400 Relay to finish sixth with a school record time of 3:38.81, shattering their previous school record by almost four seconds.
De Souza shattered her own school record in the Women's Triple Jump not just once, but twice on Saturday. On her first attempt, she jumped 12.91 meters, topping her previous best of 12.62m. It was on her third attempt that she bested her record again, this time she marked a 13.09m and took the lead in the event with three attempts left. However, she was unable to top that effort the rest of the way, and eventually settled for a third place finish in the event.
Ryan Fields was the only Bronco participant on the men's side on Saturday. After being disqualified in the Men's 110 Meter Hurdles event, he came back 85 minutes later to score a sixth place finish in the Men's 400 Meter Hurdles with a time of 51.79. He earned three of the eight total team points for CPP this weekend, and along with
Matteo Madrassi's fourth place finish in the Men's Pole Vault on Thursday, the Broncos wrap up the season at No. 30 in the country.
Azusa Pacific took home the NCAA Division II team championship on the women's side, scoring 66 points to win their second team title in the last three seasons. On the men's side, Pittsburg State won its second straight NCAA team title with 62 points.
