SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Cynthia Hurtado scored a podium finish Thursday in the women's Discus to highlight the opening day of the 2023 CCAA Track and Field Championships at Mangrum Track and Field Complex in San Marcos.
 
Hurtado took third place with a throw of 39.74 meters on her fourth of six attempts to score six team points for the Cal Poly Pomona women's track and field team. Keiana Turner had a toss of 39.14 meters to finish fifth and earn four points while Shona Christensen took eighth place and registered one point with a mark of 35.95 meters.
 
After just one of 21 events scored, the Broncos will head into day two on Friday leading the team standings with 11 points, followed by Stanislaus State (10) and Sonoma State (8).
 
Friday's action for the Cal Poly Pomona women gets underway with the long jump at 12:30 pm.
