Ayana Fields to Make Fourth Appearance at Indoor Nationals

2/27/2024 4:15:00 PM

POMONA, Calif. – Cal Poly Pomona senior Ayana Fields has earned an at-large bid to compete in the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships for the fourth consecutive season, this time in the 60-meter dash. The event will be held at Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kansas with Fields competing in the 60 meters on Friday March 8th at 1:15 PM PST.

In 2020, Fields became the first CPP women's indoor track and field student athlete to qualify for nationals in the Broncos' inaugural season. Just a day before she was set to compete in the 200 Meters and 400 Meters, the championships were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She was declared an All-American in the 200m and 400m after the NCAA Championships were scratched. The 2021 season was then also canceled due to the pandemic.

When CPP returned to action in 2022, Fields made her second appearance at nationals in both the 200 Meters and 400 Meters. She came within .03 seconds of winning a national title in the 400, while also placing fifth in the 200 meters – earning All-American honors in both events once again.

In 2023, the Los Angeles native returned to the Indoor Championships for a third time while competing in three events – the 60-meter dash, 200 meters, as well as being a member of the 4x400 relay team. This time, Fields placed second in the 200 meters and picking up her fifth individual Indoor All-America honors, while the 4x400 team placed sixth to also earn All-America recognition.

This season, Fields qualified in the 60-meter dash once again with a time of 7.46 seconds back at the Spokane Invitational in December, a mark that also broke her previous school record of 7.50. She looks for her first indoor national title and her seventh indoor All-American honor.

The championships will be held March 8-9 and will be streamed live at ncaa.com.
