FULLERTON, Calif. – Junior
Isabelle Carreon etched her name into the Cal Poly Pomona record book this past Friday at the Ben Brown Invitational in Fullerton, breaking a 17-year old school record in the pole vault at 3.83 meters. The record had previously belonged to Lyric Teigen at 3.82 meters, set during the 2007 season. Carreon now holds the CPP record in pole vault for both indoor and outdoor women's track and field. This mark was also an NCAA provisional qualifier – rankings first in the nation - and was the best finish among the 19 athletes competing in the meet.
Alondra Arias had an NCAA provisional mark in the 5000 meters, placing 16
th with a time of 17:03.45. This is the seventh-fastest time in the 5000 meters in school history, and the fifth fastest in NCAA DII this season.
Jaelyn Thomas set a personal best in the 400 meters with a time of 56.60 seconds, placing fourth in the race. Her time is tied for the 10
th fastest on the all-time CPP list, matching Laura Jackson's 56.60 time in 1984.
Yuna Queniat also had a Top 10 finish in the event, placing seventh with a time of 57.63.
Redshirt freshman
Galilea Jimenez had an impressive debut in the 3000 meter steeplechase, ranking ninth in school history with a time of 11:48.57 in her first collegiate event. She was the highest finisher of DII athletes in the race, and ranks second in the CCAA this season.
Julia Butler was close behind with and 11
th place finish, setting a personal record at 12:17.25.
Shona Christensen set personal records in both the shot put (13
th, 12.88 meters) and discus (18
th, 38.25 meters), while
Tiffany Sandoval also set personal bests in the discus (27
th, 35.79 meters) and hammer throw (22
nd, 41.92 meters).
