STANFORD, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona men's track and field team competed in Northern California this weekend, participating in both the Mike Fanelli Track Classic hosted at Chabot College and the Stanford Invitational on the campus of Stanford University.

Having been ranked the No. 1 team in all of NCAA Division II on Tuesday by the USTFCCCA, the Broncos looked to continue improving in their first road trip of the season. The team now has 15 NCAA provisional qualifying marks this season, including six ranking Top 5 in the country in their respective events.

Hurdler Ryan Fields finished third in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 13.80, which now ranks second in the nation. He is also still the national leader in the 400 meter hurdles, having ran a 51.06 at the Mangrum Invitational last weekend.

Justin Cardoza set a personal best in the triple jump with a distance of 15.26 meters, ranking fifth all-time in school history while also ranking fifth in the country this season. This mark was also good for second place in the meet.

Ian Strode won the pole vault (collegiate) at the Stanford Invite, finishing first out of 15 athletes with a height of 4.92 meters – which now ranks 14th in the nation this season. This ties his personal best, which already ranks sixth in school history.

At the Mike Fanelli Track Classic in Hayward, the Broncos set four personal bests in the 800 meters and the 5000 meters. Francisco Zavaleta led the Broncos with an 8th place finish out of 209 athletes in the 5K, setting a PR with a time of 14:22.50.
