Broncos Remain Undefeated in Conference With Sweep Over Reigning National Champs

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Broncos won their sixth straight match on Saturday afternoon, taking down defending national champion and No. 17 ranked Cal State LA. With the 3-0 sweep, Cal Poly Pomona improves to 10-1 on the season and an incredible 5-0 against nationally-ranked opponents, while the Golden Eagles fall to 7-4. The Broncos sit atop the conference standings with a perfect 4-0 CCAA record, the only team to have not lost a conference match thus far.

Sophomore Sarah Ybarra continued to make significant contributions on offense, leading the team with 15 kills and a .400 hitting percentage. The La Habra native ranks Top 10 in the CCAA in hitting percentage (.300), kills (154), aces (19), and points (186). Her four service aces on Saturday was also a career-high.

Senior Caitie Mueller also tied a career-high four service aces in the match, as the All-American setter helped orchestrate the win with 34 assists. She is now less than 100 assists away from passing Katie Colin (2010-13) for seventh on the CPP all-time list.

Speaking of Top 10 lists, libero Avery Percival added seven more digs against Cal State LA to bring her career total to 971, passing Casey Gregg (1993-96) for ninth place all-time. Percival is now just 29 digs away from becoming the ninth Bronco to ever record 1,000 digs in her CPP career.

Charlotte Koerber had a strong all-around performance, recording eight kills, two blocks, seven digs, and swinging at a .300 clip. Alexia Athans led the Broncos at the net with three blocks, bringing her team-leading total to 31 on the season – ranking fifth most in the CCAA this season. Samantha Campion also recorded double-digit kills, her fourth straight match doing so.

The team had an incredible 14 service aces to CSULA's one, coming just one short of tying a program record for most in a match during the 25-point scoring format (since 2008). CPP last recorded 15 aces against Cal Poly Humboldt (then Humboldt State) on November 7th, 2014.

The Broncos will travel up north this coming week to face Cal Poly Humboldt (6-6) and Sonoma State (5-5) on the road. Their next home match will be on Friday, October 11th, against Cal State East Bay in Kellogg Arena.
