POMONA, Calif. - Stanislaus State edged Cal Poly Pomona 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Kellogg Stadium, handing the Broncos their second loss of the season in a closely contested CCAA matchup. Despite playing on their home turf and outshooting the Warriors 14-8, the Broncos couldn't find the back of the net and dropped to 5-2-4 overall and 0-1-2 in conference play.
CPP came out aggressive in the first half, generating multiple chances through Sam Lena, Marcus Jorgensen, and Jakob Singh. Cal Poly Pomona recorded seven shots in the opening 45 minutes, but Stanislaus' goalkeeper was sharp early, making three key saves to deny the Broncos. Jack Chapman made a pair of first-half stops to keep the match level at the break.
The decisive moment came in the 58th minute when Stanislaus broke through on a quick combination play. Cal Poly Pomona responded by pushing forward for the remainder of the match. The Broncos continued to create looks at goal with second-half efforts from Omar Garcia, Clement Badger, and Miguel Gonzalez. The Warriors' goalkeeper stood tall, ending the match with five total saves and preserving the clean sheet for Stanislaus.
Although the Broncos controlled long stretches of play and outshot their opponents 7-3 in the second half, they couldn't convert their chances into goals.
