Broncos’ CCAA Run Ends with Narrow Loss to Cal Poly Humboldt

SEASIDE, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team's run in the CCAA Tournament came to an end on Friday evening with a 1-0 loss to Cal Poly Humboldt in the semifinals. The Broncos, now 14-2-3 overall, await the NCAA selection show.

Cal Poly Pomona controlled long stretches of the opening half, generating early chances from Braedyn Kincade and Marisa Salazar, both of whom forced saves from Humboldt's goalkeeper. The Broncos earned three first-half corners and applied steady pressure through the attacking efforts of Vanessa Cruz, Marisa Salazar, Georgia Rink, and Kiarra D'Arcangelo, while the defensive unit, anchored by Mikaela Marr, Giselle Samayoa, and Liberty Ortiz, limited the Lumberjacks to only two shots before halftime. Despite CPP's control of possession and tempo, the match remained scoreless at the break.

The Broncos continued to push in the second half, with Abria Smith, Cruz, Ortiz, Rink, and Salazar all contributing to a wave of offensive opportunities. Jenna Tetrault recorded an important save early in the period to keep the match level. Cal Poly Pomona outshot Humboldt throughout the match, but a goal midway through the second half put the Broncos behind. CPP responded with urgency, producing another stretch of chances that included late shots from Salazar and Rink, yet the equalizer never materialized.

Across the full ninety minutes, Cal Poly Pomona finished with 11 shots to its Humboldt's six, held a five-to-zero advantage in corner kicks, and continued to show the depth that has carried the team all season. Salazar led the team with two shots on goal, while Cruz, Rink, Kincade, Smith, and others contributed to the offensive push.
