Broncos Capture Top Spots and Set NCAA Provisional Marks at UCLA

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona Broncos delivered a strong performance at UCLA's Jim Bush Legends Meet and Bob Larsen Distance Carnival this weekend, with multiple athletes earning NCAA provisional marks and top national rankings.

Nnamdi Onwaeze led the way in the 100-meter hurdles, securing 1st place with a time of 14.13 seconds, followed closely by Christian Baker in 2nd with a time of 14.33. Both athletes achieved NCAA provisional marks.

Alessio Sommacal made his mark in the 400-meter hurdles, winning the event with a time of 51.83 seconds. This performance earned him an NCAA provisional mark and currently places him 1st in the nation.

The Broncos' relay teams also impressed, with the 4x100-meter relay team of Lorenzo Boyd, Colin Quinn, Isaiah Marecheau, and Onwaeze finishing in 1st place with a time of 40.98 seconds.

In the 4x400-meter relay, Joshua Morinaga, Leroy Crook Jr., Sommacal, and Camden Patterson took 3rd place with a time of 3:12.28. Their performance earned them a spot among the top 10 times in program history and an NCAA provisional mark, placing them 3rd in the nation.

In the field events, Kailen Smith took 1st in the high jump with a mark of 2.11 meters, achieving the NCAA provisional mark and currently ranking 2nd in the nation.

Gavin Hanes and Jered Beasley both tied for 1st in the pole vault, each clearing 4.93 meters. Their performances entered them into the top 10 in program history, and they earned NCAA provisional marks, ranking them tied for 8th in the nation.

Khai Redd also set a personal record in the javelin, winning the event with a throw of 56.15 meters.

Up next, the Broncos will be competing at the Margrum Invitational on Friday, March 28th, in San Marcos, Calif.
