HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal Poly Pomona baseball's 2025 season came to a close on Saturday afternoon, as they fell 4-1 to Cal State East Bay in the regular season finale. The Broncos finish with a 15-34 overall record, going 12-28 in CCAA play, 11-15 at home, and 4-19 on the road.
It is the first time the Broncos have missed the NCAA Tournament since 2018, and the first time they have missed the postseason altogether since 2013. The team dealt with a plethora of challenges throughout the 2025 season, including numerous injuries, paired with facing one of the toughest schedules in all of NCAA Division II. Their first 21 games of the season were all against teams that were, or would become, nationally ranked in the Top 25.
Despite a strong start on the mound by senior
Evan Adolphus and an early home run from senior
Brent Cota, the Broncos were unable to hold off the Pioneers in the final game of the year.
Cal Poly Pomona opened the scoring in the fourth inning when Cota launched a solo shot to right field, his fourth of the season and 12
th of his career. The advantage was short-lived, however, as Cal State East Bay answered with a two-run single by Danelle Daniels in the bottom of the frame to reclaim the final lead of the day.
Adolphus pitched well in his final outing, going 7.0 innings and allowing just three earned runs on seven hits with no walks and three strikeouts. He worked efficiently, throwing just 79 pitches, but suffered the loss to fall to 1-3 on the year. Seniors
Ruben Del Castillo and
Chris Fields combined for the final three outs in the eighth, Del Castillo striking out the last batter he faced and Fields facing four.
Daniels continued to be a thorn in the Broncos' side, adding an RBI single in the sixth to extend the Pioneers' lead to 3-1. East Bay would tack on one more run in the eighth with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-1.
Offensively, CPP managed six hits, with seniors
Tyler Chaffee and
Clay Porter each collecting two. Chaffee also doubled for his fifth extra-base hit of the season. Despite several base runners, the Broncos were unable to string hits together, leaving 10 runners on base over nine innings.
East Bay starting pitcher Gabe Tanner went the distance for the Pioneers, scattering six hits and striking out four in a complete game effort to improve to 5-3.
