POMONA, Calif. – Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball won their 10
th home game of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating San Francisco State by a score of 76-57. Using a dominant third quarter to pull away, the Broncos improve to 18-2 overall and remain in first place with a 13-1 CCAA record.
After trailing 35-31 at halftime, the Broncos flipped the game with a relentless 25-8 surge in the third quarter, holding the Gators to just 17.6 percent shooting in the period. Cal Poly Pomona's defense set the tone early in the half, forcing turnovers and igniting transition opportunities that quickly swung momentum. The Broncos shot 61.1 percent from the field in the third, building a double-digit lead they would not relinquish.
Sydney Nelson led all scorers with 21 points while adding six rebounds, two assists, and five steals, marking her fifth straight game scoring at least 20 points.
Andrea Stajic followed with 17 points, including timely baskets in the third and fourth quarters that helped stretch the lead.
Mydrea Moore once again was a force inside, finishing with 13 points and a team-high 12 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season.
Hunter Hudson added eight points and seven rebounds, providing physical play in the paint.
Brielle Minor orchestrated the offense with five assists and contributed on the defensive end as well, while
Alexis Woodson gave the Broncos quality minutes off the bench, finishing with four points and five rebounds. As a team, No. 13 ranked Cal Poly Pomona controlled the interior, outscoring San Francisco State 42-20 in the paint and winning the rebounding battle 48-41.
The Broncos closed the game with a steady fourth quarter, outscoring the Gators 20-14 to seal the victory. Cal Poly Pomona's balanced scoring, defensive intensity, and third-quarter execution proved decisive in yet another strong conference win.
