Baseball Splits Series With No. 7 Colorado Mesa

POMONA, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona baseball team dropped the series finale at Scolinos Field on Sunday, losing to No. 7 Colorado Mesa by a score of 10-3 to finish with a series split. With the loss, the Broncos fall to 5-2 to open the 2026 season.

Colorado Mesa struck early, plating three runs in the first two innings and adding on three more in the fourth. The Mavericks' offense recorded 14 hits on the morning, tied for the most CPP has allowed this season, led by a 4-for-5 performance from Ezra Farmer who also added a triple and a home run to the box score.

The Broncos finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three runs on four hits. Arturo Rodriguez delivered Pomona's first RBI with a base knock to center, scoring Bryan Richman, and Daniel Luther followed with a sac fly to bring home Jack Sanders. Tyler Blade added another run with a two-out RBI double to right field, cutting the deficit to 7-3 and propelling the Broncos back into the game.

Sanders and Rodriguez led the Broncos at the plate, each finishing with two hits and a run scored. Both of Sanders' hits were doubles in the middle innings, as his 1.436 OPS on the season ranks fourth-best in the CCAA.

On the mound, starting pitcher Andrew Campbell battled through 4.0 innings against the No. 7 Mavericks, ultimately taking the loss after allowing four earned runs and 10 hits. Relievers Jameson Ferraro, Andrew Dusablon, Geo Hernandez, and Sean Suriyaniel each toed the rubber out of the pen, helping slow down the Mavericks' momentum, but allowing four more runs to score.

Despite the loss on Sunday, the Broncos should be satisfied with a series split against a Top 10 opponent that is a regular favorite to make the DII College World Series every year.
