POMONA, Calif. – The bats came out hot in the series opener against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday night, scoring nine runs on 12 hits to win by a score of 9-3. With the win, the Broncos move back into first place in the CCAA standings owning a 9-4 conference record, while also improving to 17-10 overall on the season.
On the mound, senior
Andrew Campbell delivered yet another quality start, allowing just one run on two hits over six innings while striking out seven to earn his CCAA-leading seventh win of the season. His seven strikeouts marked a career-high, as he kept the Toros off balance throughout his 99-pitch outing.
Jameson Ferraro closed out the final three innings of the game, recording his second save of the season.
After conceding a run in the top of the second inning, the Broncos responded emphatically in the bottom half, plating six runs on five hits. The rally was fueled by timely hitting and three stolen bases, highlighted by RBI singles from
Sebastian Arguelles,
Daniel Ruiz,
Jack Sanders, and
Austin Duarte.
Julian Angulo would push across the final run of the inning on a sacrifice fly, extending the lead to 6-1.
Cal Poly Pomona continued to build on its lead in the third inning when
Tyler Blade and
Bryan Richman led off with back-to-back doubles down opposite lines, pushing across the team's seventh run. The Broncos added two more insurance runs in the seventh, thanks to a two-run single from Arguelles.
Blade turned in a strong night at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double, three runs scored, and a walk, consistently igniting scoring opportunities in the middle of the lineup. Arguelles also starred with a 2-for-4 effort and a game-high three RBIs, while Sanders finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs and three stolen bases.
Cal State Dominguez Hills managed just three hits in the game, tied for the Broncos' fewest allowed all season, with their final two runs coming on a home run in the ninth inning.
