SAN MARCOS, Calif. - Cal Poly Pomona's men's track & field team competed at the Mangrum Invitational on the campus of Cal State San Marcos on Friday, winning five events with strong depth across sprints, distance, and field events. The team also set 23 personal bests in the meet while meeting six NCAA qualifying marks.

The Broncos' sprint group set the tone, led by sophomore Ekene Onwaeze, who won the 100 meters in 10.67 while adding a runner-up finish in the 200 (21.63). Teammates Dylan Hanvey (10.97) and Thenuk Chandrasekera (10.98) also placed in the top eight of the 100. That strength carried into the relays, where Cal Poly Pomona's 4x100 squad placed second in 41.20.

Freshman Khalil Watson delivered one of the top performances of the meet, winning the 400 meters in an NCAA Division II qualifying time of 47.17, moving into fifth place in CPP history. He later anchored the Broncos' 4x400 relay team to a second-place finish and NCAA mark of 3:12.33, combining with Konnor Handy, Ekene Onwaeze, and Jordan Crowdus.

In the distance events, the Broncos continued to impress. Juan Ramos led a strong showing in the 1500 meters with a second-place finish (3:47.87), followed closely by Ricardo Vargas and Jimmy Guerrero in fifth and sixth place, repsectively. Freshman Luke D'Elia added a third-place finish in the 5000 meters (14:56.82), while Micah Chandler took second in the 3000-meter steeplechase (9:20.11).

The field events proved equally productive. Senior Gavin Hanes headlined the pole vault, winning with an NCAA qualifying clearance of 4.87 meters, part of a dominant showing that also saw Jered Beasley and Ian Strode clear the same height. In the high jump, freshman Harry Chen placed second with an NCAA mark of 2.05 meters.

Cal Poly Pomona also swept the top two spots in the long jump, led by Gavin Binning's winning leap of 6.83 meters, while senior John Dvorak claimed the javelin title with a throw of 59.16 meters for the seventh-best in program history.
