SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Cal Poly Pomona women's track and field put together an impressive all-around showing at the Mangrum Invitational on Friday, winning five events, setting nine personal bests, entering the record book five times, and owning a meet-best 13 individual podium finishes.
The Broncos were led by a trio of individual event wins on the track.
Arissa Hatcher captured the 800 meters in 2:11.12,
Jessica James won the 200 meters in 24.26 and
Galilea Jimenez took the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:58.12. Cal Poly Pomona also closed the day with a victory in the 4x400 relay, crossing first in 3:46.75 for the sixth-fastest time in school history. James added another standout effort in the 400 meters, placing second in 54.10, improving her third-best time in program history, while
Jordan Garcia followed in third at 55.76 to improve her mark of eighth-best in program history.
Cal Poly Pomona showed notable depth in the hurdles and distance events as well.
Neshara Smith won the 100-meter hurdles in 13.65, with
Lotta Metsarinta taking sixth in 14.84, and
Keneyia Hall later placed second in the 400 hurdles in 1:04.67 while Metsarinta came in fifth in 1:05.57. In the steeplechase,
Miranda Palacios finished fifth in 11:21.11 and
Julia Butler was 10th in 11:42.59.
In the field, Smith added a runner-up finish in the high jump at 1.65m (5-5),
Kendra Williams cleared 3.59m (11-9.25) for second in the pole vault to move into fourth all-time, and
Ehinomen Eghobor took second in the triple jump with a mark of 12.03m (39-5.75), climbing to fifth in the CPP record book.
Halle McDaniels also placed second in both the hammer throw at 46.32m (151-11) and shot put at 12.60m (41-4.25).
