POMONA, Calif. – Cal Poly Pomona women's track and field had a busy weekend, competing in three separate meets up and down the California coast. In total, the Broncos entered the record book eight times, breaking one school record, earning six provisional marks, and setting 14 personal bests.
The Broncos were led by senior
Arissa Hatcher, who headlined the weekend at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational by breaking her own school record in the 800 meters with an NCAA Division II provisional time of 2:07.81. Her performance not only secured a runner-up finish in the event, but also moved her up to sixth in the country.
Cal Poly Pomona's sprint group also turned in standout efforts across both Northern California meets.
Jessica James had a dominant weekend, posting an NCAA Division II qualifying mark of 54.46 in the 400 meters at the Stanford Invitational while also clocking 11.85 in the 100 meters and 24.15 in the 200 meters. The Broncos carried that momentum into the relays, where the 4x400 team of
Jordan Garcia, Hatcher,
Hannah Bassett, and James captured the event title at Brutus Hamilton with a provisional mark of 3:43.06.
In the hurdles and jumps,
Neshara Smith and
Ehinomen Eghobor led the way at Stanford. Smith placed second in the 100-meter hurdles with a 13.58 NCAA Division II mark, which now ranks fourth-best in the country, while Eghobor matched that level with a 12.06m jump in the triple jump.
Kendra Williams added another qualifying performance in the pole vault, clearing 3.81m, to move into third in program history.
The Broncos' depth was equally evident in San Diego at the UCSD Triton Invitational.
Miranda Palacios led a strong showing in the 1500 meters, while
Halle McDaniels and
Isabelle Campos anchored the throws group with multiple top finishes in the shot put, discus, and hammer.
