AZUSA, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona women's track and field team had yet another strong performance on Friday and Saturday at the APU Franson Last Chance Meet, reaching seven NCAA provisional qualifying marks while entering the CPP record book five times.
The Broncos were strong on the track, where
Jessica James led the sprint group with an NCAA Division II provisional mark of 24.06 in the 200 meters, finishing eighth overall. The 4x100 relay quartet of
Samira Stevenson, James,
Hannah Bassett, and
Jordan Garcia added another highlight, placing second in 46.27- also a provisional qualifying time that reinforced the team's sprint depth.
In the hurdles,
Neshara Smith continued her standout senior campaign, clocking a wind-aided 13.66 in the 100-meter hurdles during prelims to secure an NCAA provisional mark. She also contributed in the field, placing seventh in the long jump at 5.83 meters (19-1.5), leading a group that saw three Broncos surpass 5.30 meters.
Middle distance and distance events produced additional qualifiers and top finishes.
Arissa Hatcher recorded a 2:07.45 in the 800 meters to earn an NCAA provisional mark and place ninth, while
Miranda Palacios matched that standard in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a 10:52.56 effort, also finishing ninth. In the 5000 meters,
Galilea Jimenez delivered one of the team's top distance performances of the meet, placing eighth in 16:55.12, the sixth-fastest time in program history.
The 400-meter group added solid depth, led by
Yasmeen Delgado's 55.88 for eighth place which is the ninth-fastest time in school history, while freshman
Naomi Shillingford posted a 58.22.
In the field events,
Mi'ah Molette entered the record book, placing second in the shot put with an NCAA provisional mark of 14.57 meters (47-9.75).
Kendra Williams added a fourth-place finish in the pole vault at 3.82 meters (12-6.25), also meeting the provisional standard, while
Bailie Horton cleared 3.67 meters for fifth. Both Williams and Horton set personal bests that improved their marks in the CPP record books.
Additional contributions came from
Isabelle Campos in the discus (41.38m, sixth),
Clara Mackison in the javelin (37.88m, seventh), and
Ehinomen Eghobor in the triple jump (11.64m, eighth), as the Broncos showed consistency across all throwing and jumping disciplines.
Overall, Cal Poly Pomona compiled seven NCAA Division II provisional marks while also setting nine personal bests and entering the record book five times.
