ALISO VIEJO, Calif. - Cal Poly Pomona Athletics has once again established itself as the premier athletics department in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, earning the 2025-26 CCAA Robert J. Hiegert Commissioner's Cup and becoming the first institution since 2016-17 to capture the conference's top all-sports honor in consecutive seasons.
The Broncos finished atop the final standings with 93.93 points, ahead of Chico State (87.71) and Cal State San Marcos (85.72). The award, named after former longtime CCAA Commissioner and Hall of Famer Robert J. Hiegert, recognizes the conference institution with the highest aggregate ranking across eight of the CCAA's 13 championship sports.
The title marks the third Commissioner's Cup in Cal Poly Pomona history and places the Broncos among an elite group of departments to have won multiple Hiegert Cups, joining only Chico State and former CCAA member UC San Diego.
"The resilience, grit, and determination were evident throughout the multiple sport seasons by our student-athletes, coaches, and athletic administrative staff in working together to achieve programmatic success," said Cal Poly Pomona's Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Brian Swanson. "The ability to continually adapt to the ever-changing landscape of intercollegiate athletics and the focus needed to stay present during each week of long athletic seasons showed in the culmination of the overall body of achievement across all sports. The ability of student-athletes to manage academics, sports, and service is a testament to their drive to achieve demonstrated success both in competition and beyond."
The Broncos secured the Commissioner's Cup behind one of the most successful athletic years in department history. Cal Poly Pomona captured three CCAA championships during the 2025-26 campaign and added five additional top 3 conference finishes.
The fall season provided a strong foundation as both women's soccer and volleyball claimed CCAA regular-season titles. The men's and women's cross country programs also delivered top 3 finishes at the conference championships.
In the winter, women's basketball added another conference title while the men's basketball team finished tied for fourth in the conference standings. Strong performances throughout the spring from baseball and both track and field programs helped the Broncos secure the cup for a second consecutive year.
CCAA Commissioner Allen Hardison praised the Broncos' sustained excellence.
"On behalf of the CCAA, I would like to congratulate Cal Poly Pomona on another outstanding year," said Hardison. "Winning this award once is a major feat, and repeating as back-to-back champions displays the strong foundation this department is built on. It takes buy-in from everyone on campus to win an award like this. Congratulations to the amazing Bronco student-athletes, Interim President Iris Levine, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Brian Swanson, and the Cal Poly Pomona coaches and staff."
Beyond conference-level success, the Broncos produced remarkable accomplishments across all 11 sports during the academic year.
As a department, Cal Poly Pomona compiled an overall record of 121-57-8, producing the third-highest combined winning percentage in the past 60 years. The Broncos set a school record by winning 71 percent of their road competitions, while extending their streak of consecutive winning seasons to 17 years.
The department also established a new CCAA record with 44 Athletes of the Week selections, and for the first time in program history, every Bronco sport earned at least one conference weekly award during the same academic year.
The Broncos had a strong showing on the national stage, as Cal Poly Pomona is the highest-ranked athletics department in the NCAA Division II West Region in the Learfield Directors' Cup standings, ranking among the nation's top 25 programs and nearly doubling the point total of the next closest CCAA institution.
With another Commissioner's Cup secured, Cal Poly Pomona continues to build on a legacy of competitive excellence while positioning itself among the nation's elite NCAA Division II athletics programs.
