Biography
In 2010 Track & Field: Put together best times early in the season, posting the team's best 5,000-meter mark on March 6 in Turlock, Calif., at 14:55.26... Also recorded the squad's second-best 1,500-meter time (4:00.96) on Feb. 20 at UC San Diego.
In 2009 Cross Country: Broncos' top runner for the second straight season... Six races, finished in top 30 in each and owned five top-20 finishes... Earned All-West Region by virtue of his 13th place finish at NCAA West Regionals in San Francisco... All-CCAA honors with 3rd place at conference meet in McKinleyville... Earned CCAA honors with 4th place finish at Triton Invite.
In 2009 Track & Field: Met provisional standard for NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 10,000 meters (30:54.02), but did not make NCAA field... CCAA champion in the 10,000 meters (31:53.49)... Earned NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 5,000 (14:37.78)... Earned teams' top 1500 time (3:55.19).
In 2008 Cross Country: One of the top runners in the California Collegiate Athletic Association… Named the CCAA’s Newcomer of the Year and All-CCAA selection… Broncos’ top runner in each of his five races… Placed fourth in CCAA event (25:39) over the 8,000-meter course in Devore… Finished 19th at NCAA West Regional after race was restarted due to meet management issues… Medalist honors in his first meet, running the Devore course in 25:25 to win the CSU San Bernardino Invitational… Finished 27th at the Stanford Invitational… Top CCAA performer at UCSD Triton Invitational… A two-time CCAA Runner of the Week honoree.
At Santa Ana College: Earned athlete of the year honors in his sport… Best time of 20:30 over four miles… Best time of 8:36 in the 3,000 meters.
High School: A 2004 graduate of Katella High School... Named MVP of the Empire League for cross country... Selected as Katella's Athlete of the Year for his strong performances in cross country, wrestling and track.
Personal: Son of Jersain and Guadalupe Torres... Sociology major and Criminology minor... Favorite pro team is the Los Angeles Lakers... Favorite athlete is Rafael Nadal... Aspires to become a juvenile probation officer.
