The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team closed the book on the 1995-96 season with an overall record of 17-10 and a 7-5 record in CCAA competition to finish tied for third in the conference. This marked the first season in three years the Broncos recorded a conference record of at least .500, and the first time since the 1980-81 season that the Broncos had a winning conference record.

The Broncos were led by sophomore guard Carlton Whiteside, who averaged 11.2 points a game. Senior forward Mike Reynolds led the team in rebounds, averaging 5.8 per game, and junior guard John Miller had the team-high in assists, averaging 3.9 per game. Miller and senior forward Barnabas James averaged double-digit point totals of 10.7 and 10, respectively.

Senior guard Reuben Jones, who earned All-CCAA honors, had the team's third-best 3-point field goal percentage, making 22 of 62 (.355).

In a season highlighted by defensive play, Miller had a record-setting 69 steals in a season while Reynolds recorded the third-highest season total in that category with 61.

In addition, three Broncos reached the top 10 for blocked shots in a season and in a career. Senior forward Nate Shine (37), Reynolds (31), and senior guard Tyrone Merriweather (27) recorded the second, fifth, and ninth-most blocked shots in a season, respectively. For their careers, Merriweather finished with the second-most blocks (63), Reynolds finished fourth (51), and Shine ended in fifth (43).

On offense, Whiteside had the eighth-highest CPP season total for 3-point field goals made by a player (32).
