The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team completed its 2005-06 season with an overall record of 17-10 and a 13-7 in conference to place third in the CCAA. In spite of a three-game losing streak midway through the season, the Broncos surged in the latter half of the season, winning nine of its last 11 games.
The CPP offense had three players who averaged double-digit scoring averages for the season. Junior guard Dion Cook led the Broncos with 15.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and nearly 4.0 assists per game. Senior guard Jonathan Boyd averaged 12.8 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game while senior guard Hervey Malone II had 10 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. Leading the team in assists was junior guard Billy Hofman with 4.9 per game.
Defense was also a significant component of the Broncos this season, which held opponents to a conference-best .427 field-goal percentage and the second-lowest scoring average in the CCAA (67.2).
This season also marked the freshman year of forward Larry Gordon, who averaged 6.7 points, a team-best 5.7 rebounds and the team's second-best free throw percentage (.724) during his award-winning first year for the Broncos. Gordon would later lead the Broncos to the NCAA Championship game for the 2008-09 season.
Boyd finished his career with the Broncos as the record holder for season 3-point field goal percentage (.481), and 3-point field goals made in a season (75) and in a career (182). He has the second-best 3-point field goal percentage for a career (.446) and the third-most 3-point field goal attempts (408).
Hofman registered the fourth-highest assists total in a CPP season with 124, and Malone II tied former POSITION Jeff Bonds' record for games played (117). Cook's 53 steals in the season among the 10 best in the program's history in that category.
