The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team finished the 1990-91 season, its first full season in the 90's, with an overall record of 15-14 and 6-6 in CCAA play to place in a tie for third in the conference with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
Senior forward Terry Ross became the fourth player in program history to earn All-American honors. Ross led the team with a remarkable average of 23.4 points per game, the second-highest season scoring average all-time for the Broncos. He also had a team-high 9.4 rebounds per game.
Junior guard Andre Harrell led the team in assists, averaged 3.9 assists per game for the 1990-91 season. He was the only CPP player with a triple-digit assists total (112).
Ross, for his career, set records for points scored with 1,120 points and field goals made (445). He also went down in the record books second in career steals (93), third in free throws scored (219), third in field goals made in a season (232), third in points scored in a season (586), sixth in career rebounds (545), tied for sixth in career blocks (34) and eighth in free throws scored in a season (113).
Other Broncos in the record books included Harrell, who was added to the record books seventh in assists for a season (112) and ninth in steals for a season (42). He set records for 3-pointers made in a game and 3-point field goal percentage in a game, when he made six of seven attempts (.857) against Cal State Bakersfield.
Tying Ross' career blocks mark of 34 was senior center Marcellus Lee, who also had the second-highest blocked shots total for a season (34). In addition, sophomore forward John Overbeck had 26 career blocks, which put him tied for ninth on the list.
Elsewhere, junior guard D.J. Norman in the season set records for career 3-point field goals made in a career (86) and 3-point field goals attempted (221), which also gave him the fourth-best 3-point field goal percentage for a career (.389). He also had the second-most assists in a career (261) and played the fifth-most games in a Bronco uniform (81).
As a team, the Broncos set records for most blocks in a game with nine against Cal State Hayward. In the aforementioned game against CSUB, CPP set records for most 3-point field goals made (10) and 3-point field goals attempted (23).
In a game against Alaska Fairbanks, the Broncos had their 10th-highest scoring game of their career, defeating AF, 122-89. In that game, Ross scored 37 points to tie the fourth-highest point total in a game in the program's history. Ross also scored 35 against CPSLO to tie for the ninth-highest game point total for a Bronco, 33 against UC Riverside (T18th) and 31 against Chapman College (T28th).
