“Being on scholarship has provided me with the opportunity to continue to do the sport I love as well as building a foundation for my future by furthering my education. I am a decathlete, so training for ten events, paired with being a civil engineering major, is a huge commitment. Fortunately, I have been blessed to be on scholarship, so I do not have to have a job on top of that. Right now, my focus is on two things, number one is being All-American (Top 8 in the country in my event), and number two is graduating. Once I graduate, I would like to either work in geotechnical engineering or concrete design. Even though being a student-athlete takes a lot of sacrifice, I wouldn't trade it for anything. I love track and I love being a decathlete and my scholarship has afforded me the opportunity to pursue that passion. I can honestly say I wouldn't be here today if I hadn't been offered a scholarship. I do not take that fact for granted. I am extremely thankful to the athletic department for allowing me to participate in the sport I love while pursuing my passion for civil engineering.
