Bret Lachemann enters his sixth season as the pitching coach on Randy Betten's staff during the 2016 campaign. Through the past five years with Lachemann serving on the coaching staff, the Broncos have posted an impressive record of 171-102 with three playoff appearances.

In the 2015 season, the Broncos reached the NCAA Division II Championships and finished in the semifinal round as the third-place team nationally. With Lachemann as the pitching coach, the Broncos' pitching staff secured a conference-low 2.69 earned run average. The Green and Gold also racked up 504 strikeouts throughout the entire season, including 44 in CPP's five games in the NCAA Championships against some of the best teams in the country. Throughout the season, the Broncos averaged 8.35 striekouts per game.

CPP had a pair of All-Americans in the 2015 season. Both Kyle Garlick and the Broncos' ace pitcher Ryan Olson made the list. Olson provided his teammates with a flawless 12-0 record on the season, including a team-leading 92 strikeouts while allowing just a .180 opponent batting average.

Between 2011 and 2015, CPP has featured 32 All-Conference honorees, five All-Americans and 10 players selected in the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft. In the 2014 campaign, the Broncos went 32-17 for the highest winning percentage since 1983. Under the leadership of Lachemann, the CPP pitching staff maintained an earned run average of 3.41 - one of just five teams under the 3.50 mark.

The Broncos' pitching staff also turned in a banner season in 2012, ranking first in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) with a league-best earned run average of 3.39. That ERA proved to be .15 better than the second-best pitching staff of Cal State Stanislaus. CPP also tallied 15 complete-game performances, more than twice the amount of any other team within the conference.

Under the leadership of Lachemann, the Broncos' pitchers maintained a earned run average of 3.26 through the 2011 season, a mark that ranked second in the conference. CPP advanced to the CCAA Tournament for the first time since 2005 and the NCAA Division II postseason for the first time since 1993.

This is Lachemann's second coaching stint with the Broncos, as he oversaw the team’s pitching staff during the 2004 campaign.

While serving as the head coach at Del Oro High School from 2006 through 2010, Lachemann took on the dual role of teacher and coach. On the baseball field, Lachemann led the Golden Eagles to a 57-55-1 record over four seasons. In 2008, Del Oro played in just its second Sac-Joaquin Section championship game, falling to Ponderosa 3-2.

After graduating as a Bronco, Lachemann went on to play three professional seasons in the Anaheim Angels’ organization and reached the single-A level in 1991 before an arm injury ended his playing career. Bret got his first coaching gig at Fullerton College where he stayed from 1998 to 2002.
