Bill Bannon

A talented and hard-working coach who has been an outstanding addition to the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball program, Bill Bannon begins his 10th season in 2011-12 with the Broncos. 

Since Bannon joined the Cal Poly Pomona coaching staff, the Broncos are 188-79 overall and have established themselves as one of the top Division II programs in the country. 

During the 2010-11 season, the Broncos posted an overall mark of 17-11 and a conference record of 13-9.

CPP became the first unranked team in 31 years to win the NCAA national championship in 2010 and have played in two of the past three national championship games.

The Broncos' four Elite Eight appearances in the last nine years are more than any other program in that span. He also has been instrumental in the Broncos winning three CCAA titles during his nine years.

Bannon also stepped in as the head coach for one game in 2005-06 and guided the Broncos to a 70-69 overtime win at Cal State Bakersfield.

Bannon is a native of Sudbury, Mass. His main responsibilities include serving as the program's recruiting coordinator, player development, game and practice planning and directing the team's strength and conditioning program. He is also the team's academic coordinator.

He is a graduate of Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School in the Boston area and an accomplished three-sport playing career led him to Fordham University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in English in 1995. Bannon was a tight end on Fordham's football team.

After graduation, Bannon returned to Boston and coached football, basketball and baseball for four years at his high school alma mater before moving to San Diego, where he was the assistant basketball coach at Grossmont College for three years. He helped guide the team to the 2002 Pacific Coast Conference championship.

Bannon resides in Huntington Beach.
