Matt Okada enters his eighth season as an assistant coach for the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team in 2021-22.

Okada plays an instrumental role in CPP's recruiting, camps, academic monitoring and on-court instruction.  The Broncos have captured two CCAA regular season titles, one CCAA tournament title, and have qualified for the NCAA Tournament five times compiling an overall record of 125-49 during his six-year tenure.
 
Prior to joining the Broncos, Okada spent one year as an assistant coach at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria (Calif.) under head coach Tyson Aye. In his lone season, the Bulldogs qualified for the CCCAA state tournament. Okada was instrumental in recruiting a team that ultimately sent 10 players on to the four-year level. Okada was also instrumental in the success of the inaugural Hancock Youth Basketball Club. More than 80 children from the Central Coast enrolled in the club to learn the fundamentals of basketball.
 
Okada spent the 2012-2013 season as an assistant coach at Imperial Valley College in Imperial (Calif.). He assisted in building a recruiting class comprised of players from across the country.
 
From 2008-2010, Okada served first as a student-manager and then as video coordinator for the University of the Pacific in Stockton (Calif.) under head coach Bob Thomason. During the 2009-10 campaign, the Tigers finished 21-12, capturing the Big West Regular Season Championship and reaching the championship of the College Insider Tournament.
 
During 2007-08, Okada spent time as an executive offices intern for the Philadelphia 76ers assisting in various duties related to marketing, community relations, and statistics.
 
Okada earned a Bachelor of Science degree in sports management with a business management minor from the University of the Pacific. He also owns a Master of Science degree in physical education from California University of Pennsylvania.

A Gardena (Calif.) native, Okada graduated from Nathaniel Narbonne High School in Harbor City (Calif.).
