Ciara Carl enters her second season in 2011-12 as assistant coach for the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team. She is actively involved in all aspects of coaching, including recruiting, scheduling and player development.
Carl, along with head coach Danelle Bishop and fellow assistant coach Kevin Adams, helped the Broncos to a 28-5 overall record this season en route to California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and
West Region titles.
Prior to joining the Broncos, Carl gained coaching experience with the San Diego Sol, San Diego Super 60 League and her high school alma mater St. Mary's School in Raleigh, N.C.
Carl also has a background in strength and conditioning, which stems from her education experience. She graduated from Point Loma Nazarene in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Exercise Science. From there, Carl went on to earn a Master's of Science in 2006 from California University of Pennsylvania with an emphasis in Performance Enhancement and Injury Prevention. She later completed an internship at N.C. State with the Wolf Pack's strength and conditioning program.
While pursuing her undergraduate degree at PLNU, Carl put together a prolific college career on the basketball court. At the end of her four years, she collected the most number of assists in program history (647) and the school's second-best steals total (277). During her time in the Sea Lions' athletic program, Carl also competed for the track and field team in the javelin.
Carl was born in Los Angeles but spent her childhood in Cary, N.C. She graduated from Saint Mary's School in 2000 and earned All-State honors for basketball during her senior year of high school. She also lettered in volleyball and golf at Saint Mary's.
