Brianna Gonzales enters her second season in 2016 as an assistant coach on the Cal Poly Pomona volleyball staff.
In her first season, the Broncos advanced to the California Collegiate Athletic Association's (CCAA) first-ever Championship Tournament, going 1-1 as they topped San Francisco State, but fell to No. 17 Sonoma State. The team went 17-13 overall on the season, complete with a 12-8 mark in conference play.
Prior to arriving at CPP, Gonzales had a two-year tenure as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Whittier.
During her time at Whittier, the program rose to new heights. In 2014, the Poets bested Chapman University for the first time in program history. During that same campaign, Rebecca Slattery was a SCIAC All-Conference Selection and five of their squad members were named to the SCIAC All-Academic team. In 2013, the Poets achieved the second-best record in program history (14-15 Overall, 5-11 SCIAC) and won the Worthington Classic Tournament Championship in Washington D.C.
She has a strong coaching background, having coached various levels over the years. Gonzales has coached the So Cal United 14's, So Cal Juniors 17-Elite, and the Orange Coast Volleyball Club 12's Elite, all club teams based in Southern California.
She has spent time coaching camps as well, beginning during her playing days in 2006 at La Verne, then continued on to Texas Tech between 2011-14, and most recently at Whittier College in 2013-14. Her camp experience includes the United States Youth Volleyball League and the SCVA College Skills Clinic.
From 2005 through 2008, Gonzales played for the University of La Verne Leopards. During her time on squad, they won four-consecutive SCIAC Championships. She was named the team captain in both 2007 and 2008. The team earned a trip to the West Region Championship and an appearance in the NCAA Final Four in 2008, a trip in which the team finished second-place nationally.
She was a two-time AVCA All-American First Team selection, a two-time SCIAC Player of the Year, a two-time All-SCIAC Performer, and a two-time All-West Region selection. In 2008, she was named the NCAA West Regional Most Outstanding Player and was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team.
In 2009, Gonzales was named the National Strength & Conditioning Association All-American Athlete of the Year. As it currently stands, she is third in La Verne's record books in career kills (1,273), fourth in career digs (1,166), and third in career sets played (381).
