Kenji Mukai

Kenji Mukai has been a steady presence on the Cal Poly Pomona’s volleyball program and begins his third year as CPP's full-time assistant. The Broncos have earned an NCAA postseason berth, capped by the 2008 NCAA Pacific Regional runner-up finish, during his time at CPP.

Mukai joined the Broncos prior to the 2005 season and helped CPP to its 24-3 record and a share of the program’s first California Collegiate Athletic Association championship since 1990.

From 2005-07, he coached at Mt. San Antonio College as its top assistant. He helped the Mounties to the state playoffs in each year, a feat that had not occurred in 10 years.

No stranger to Southern California club volleyball, he is club director and owner of San Gabriel Elite Volleyball Club in Pasadena. He coached the 17 Roshambo team to a top-28 finish in the United States and the 16Roshambo team to a top-13 finish in the 16American Division at the Junior Olympics. His 16 Roshambo earned a Bronze medal at the 2007 Junior Olympics.

He also coached at the San Gabriel Volleyball Club for 11 seasons from 12s to 18s and was the director of operations at the SGVBC.

From 1997-2000, he coached at Flintridge Sacred Heart and assisted the team to a CIF D-IV AA title. He also served as a volunteer assistant coach at Cal State Northridge in 2001. He also has been an assistant coach in track and field at Loyola High School.

Mukai is a graduate of Cal Poly Pomona and earned his bachelor’s degree in history in 2000. He also was awarded a masters degree in pedagogy from Cal State L.A.

He resides in West Covina.
