Highlighted with a stellar performance from Jacob Deavers in the 400-meter hurdles, the Cal Poly Pomona men's track and field team showcased its talents Saturday at the Triton Invitational at UC San Diego.

Deavers increased his chances of competing at the NCAA Division II Championships with a strong performance Saturday. In the 400-meter hurdles, he improved on his “B” provisional national qualifier with a mark of 53.27 to place fourth overall.

His previous best in the event this year was 53.86, which he ran at the Pomona Pitzer Invitational. Also on Saturday at UCSD, Deavers finished fifth in the 110-meter hurdles, recording a 15.04 time.
