Competing against 2011 U.S. Junior Champion Jordi Andrade in the 400-meter hurdles event at Saturday's Long Beach State Classic, Cal Poly Pomona's Jacob Deavers didn't back away from the challenge. Deavers, who earned All-American status at last year's Division II Championships, placed third in Saturday's highly-competitive heat while also slashing his previous "B" provisional mark. Last week at the Rossi Relays, he crossed the line in 53.63. This week in Norwalk, Deavers finished at 53.24 to finish fourth overall.
Also on Saturday, Deavers placed 11th in the 110-meter hurdles (15.19) while helping the 4x100 relay take fifth at 41.95 and the 4x400 relay finish sixth with a mark of 3:17.22.
