Lizette Huerta landed Cal Poly Pomona's 10th-best all-time mark in the 1,500-meter event Saturday after crossing the line directly behind teammate Diana Zapata at 4:37.37. The time for Huerta, a freshman from Ontario, qualifies her for the 2012 USA Junior Nationals to be held in Bloomington, Ind., from June 15 through June 17.
All-American TIffany Dinh paced Zapata and Huerta through the first 1,200 meters of the the 1,500-meter event Saturday en route to posting her own time of 4:39.73 to place 12th overall. Also during Saturday's competition in Claremont, Huerta nearly matched her season best in the 800-meter run, crossing the line in 2:18.40 to place 18th.
