Jillian Schmidt started her senior season with four first-place finishes Saturday as the Cal Poly Pomona women's track and field team excelled in the 2013 opener held in La Jolla. Schmidt, who placed third in the heptathlon at last year's conference championships, demonstrated her versatility Saturday with top performances in four different events.

In individual events, the Diamond Bar native posted a height of 1.65  meters in the high jump, recorded a 5.38-meter showing in the long jump and raced to a 15.31 time in the 100-meter hurdles. Schmidt also helped the 4x400 relay - featuring teammates Ariel Whitney, Erin Zwinger and Angela Garcia - put up a 3:58.98 mark to take first.
