Vincent Huitt of the Cal Poly Pomona men's track and field team recorded an impressive provisional qualifier Friday with a hammer throw of 191-10 at the Azusa Pacific Last Chance Meet.

"With as many ups and downs as this sport has, I'm thrilled that I was able to accomplish what I did today," Huitt said. "Getting to nationals is what everybody aims for and I'm extremely excited to get a chance at that opportunity."

Although Huitt started the day at No. 18 on the Division II leaderboard for the hammer, his throw Friday afternoon moves him into the No. 11 position. In the 2012 NCAA National Championships, 16 student-athletes earned the opportunity to compete in the hammer. The official list of entries for the D-II championships will be announced Monday.

Huitt's 191-10 mark ranks as the second best in school history. The program record for the discus is 200-1, set by Marvin Williams in 1991
