Senior right-handed RJ Shanks delivered a pair of clutch relief performances this past weekend as the Broncos completed a four-game sweep of CCAA defending champion Cal State Monterey Bay. Shanks collected two wins in relief during the series, raising his season total to three victories. That total ranks in a tie for first on the CCAA leaderboard.
Although Shanks needed to record just one out in each of his two appearances last week, they were certainly two big outs. Shanks entered in the top of the ninth inning during game two of the series Saturday with the Broncos trailing 7-5. He left two CSUMB runners stranded and in the bottom of the inning, CPP scored three runs for the 8-7 win.
In game four of the series Sunday, Shanks entered in the top of the eighth with CPP down 4-2. He left two more CSUMB runners stranded and in the bottom of the inning, CPP scored three runs and ended up winning 5-4.
