The nationally-ranked Cal Poly Pomona men's cross country team placed second Saturday at the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships.

The Broncos finished with 46 points to trail only Chico State's 29. CPP put a huge gap between itself and the third-place team, San Francisco State, of 101 points.

Saturday's race represented a vast improvement from the Broncos' second-place showing in 2013. Last year, Chico runners filled the top six individual spots. This year, CPP hadMark Huizar in second, Francisco Gomez in fifth and John Dominguez at No. 6.

With a time of 25:16.4, Huizar crossed the line less than three seconds behind the race winner Alex McGuirk. Huizar, a sophomore out of La Puente, earned All-CCAA honors for the second-consecutive season.
