Cal Poly Pomona senior Carissa English broke a school record on Saturday, posting a 177-1 mark in the hammer throw at the California Collegiate Invitational hosted by UC San Diego.

That distance improves her "B" provisional mark and moves her to No. 1 on the Broncos' all-time leaderboard for that event. English, a Huntington Beach native, trailed only a few Division I competitors Saturday in the hammer throw event at UCSD. Her record-setting mark, which also ranks 14th nationally for 2015, came on her third throw in that event. She also competed in the discus as well on Saturday.
