Kyle Garlick earned both an American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-American and a spot on the NCAA Division II College World Series All-Tournament team this week. As the Broncos’ leadoff hitter in Cary, North Carolina, he led all eight teams with a .522 average, posting 12 hits in 23 at bats.
At the plate he launched what was easily the longest homerun of the tournament, with a 440 foot shot to left field. His homerun not only helped the Green and Gold earn the win, but gave him the Cal Poly Pomona single-season record with 17 homers, besting Travis Taijeron’s record set in 2010.
He also added a pair of doubles and a couple triples which assisted him en route to six runs scored and eight runs batted in. He posted 21 total bases in the tournament and was flawless in the field, making 14 outs in the outfield and helping the Broncos to a 3-2 record.
With Garlick's help, the CPP squad tallied a program record 46 wins this season, three more than the previous record set in 1979.
