In their opening week the No. 10 Cal Poly Pomona Broncos played a four-game series against the Concordia Eagles. The Broncos won the series, winning three of the four contests.
At Scolinos Field on Thursday, the first home night game in program history, the Broncos' were victorious as they topped the visiting Eagles 9-8. Friday, another night game at home, saw CPP secure the 3-0 win over CUI. The following day, the Green and Gold headed to Irvine for a doubleheader at the Eagles' home field. The fell in the first game after a walk off homer in the ninth gave Concordia the 4-3 win, but then CPP won the series with a 12-3 victory in game four.
Newcomer Chris Stratton made an immediate impact for the Broncos. He reached base safely eight times over the series and recorded nine total bases after his four hits. His offensive output included a triple and a homerun. His four-bagger came in his debut game with the Broncos on Thursday.
He scored six times himself and added seven runs batted in. His top game was the final game of the series against the Eagles where he went 2-for-3, scoring twice and providing CPP with four RBI. He also drew a walk in the contest and recorded a stolen base, of which he had four on the weekend.
