The No. 10 Cal Poly Pomona baseball team won the season-opening series against the Concordia Eagles as they won 3-of-4 games, topping the Eagles 9-8, 3-0, and 12-3 in the first, second, and fourth game of the weekend, and falling 4-3 after a walk off homer gave CUI the win in the third game.
In game two, after a stellar performance on the mound from Broncos' 2015 All-American Ryan Olson, newcomer Peter Bayer took the mound and turned heads as well. The senior transfer dealt for 3.2 innings in the contest and earned the save.
His showing included him facing just 12 batters and allowing zero hits. His prowess on the bump showed him with nine of the 11 outs being strikeouts including an amazing eight-straight. He allowed just a single baserunner to reach via walk, but halted his chances of advancing.
