Through the season’s first three weeks, Travis Taijeron has demonstrated once again why he’s one of the league’s best hitters. Currently batting .412 on the season with a slugging percentage of .745, Taijeron helped the Cal Poly Pomona baseball team to a series win against Cal State Dominguez Hills last week by taking three of four games from the Toros. On Thursday in Pomona, the senior outfielder went 3-for-6 and collected four runs batted in during the Broncos’ thrilling 13-inning victory against CSUDH. The Toros’ pitching staff took a more careful approach to Taijeron the rest of the series, walking him five times in the final three games. He still proved effective though, reaching base three out of four times on Friday and four out of five times during Saturday’s first game. Among the CCAA ranks, Taijeron’s slugging percentage is second-best.
