LA JOLLA
– No. 11 UC San Diego received a goal from freshman Hayley Johnson in the 13th minute as the host Tritons defeated Cal Poly Pomona 1-0 in California Collegiate Athletic Association women's soccer Sunday afternoon.

CPP, which had its three-game winning streak snapped, is 9-9 overall and 5-9 in CCAA and completes the 2009 season this weekend with games against Cal State San Bernardino on Friday and Sunday.

Coach Isabelle Harvey's squad plays at CSUSB on Friday and is at home Sunday on Senior Day against the Coyotes. Both games are set for 12:30 p.m. kickoffs.

The Tritons, who clinched a CCAA Tournament berth, is 14-3, 11-3.

After Johnson took a corner kick from the right side, Shelby Wong fed the ball back to Johnson, who ripped a high shot that bounced off the inside of the left post and rolled to the back of the net.

The Broncos' best chance of the opening half took place in the 35th minute when sophomore forward Valerie Strawn fired a shot toward the net. Tritons' GK Kristin Armstrong made the initial stop, but the ball caromed away. Sophomore forward Justine Barclay charged and lined up for a possible shot, but Armstrong pounced on the ball.

In the 43rd minute, Strawn controlled the ball, but her shot came off her foot too straight and Armstrong had her third and final save of the contest.
