LOS ANGELES
– Cal Poly Pomona fell just short of its upset bid against Cal State L.A., on Friday, losing 2-1 in a California Collegiate Athletic Association contest.

The Broncos are 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the CCAA as they prepare for Sunday's game at defending national champion Cal State Dominguez Hills. No. 5 CSULA is 3-0-1, 1-0-1.

The Golden Eagles played with a man advantage for the final 65 minutes and held off the Broncos. Cal State L.A., ranked fifth in the nation, out-shot CPP 24-6, but had to hang on down the stretch to secure the win.

Jason Swope scored both Cal State L.A. goals – one in each half.

Cal Poly Pomona goalie Brad Jones was solid between the posts with 12 saves to keep the Broncos within striking distance. Senior Dustin Suppe was stopped on a solid save from CSULA's goalkeeper in the 16th minute.

Swope put the Golden Eagles ahead, 1-0, in the 21st minute.

The Broncos' Marc Glogowsky was issued a red card after he batted a shot attempt by Cal State L.A.'s Aza Gomez that was headed for the goal with his hand in the 26th minute.

Swope made it 2-0 in the 54th minute with a shot into the net while in full stride toward the net.

The Broncos pulled to within one goal when senior Kevin Ramirez sent a hard shot in the box from straightaway that just eluded Hummel's fingertips and settled in under the crossbar for the score.

Jones made some big saves to keep the Broncos within one goal, deflecting a rebound attempt from point-blank range by Derrick Horn after he had pounced on a save off a shot by Spencer Tripp. Tripp had another bid just two minutes after the Broncos' goal, but Jones made a one-handed deflection to prevent a goal.
