LOS ANGELES – No. 19 Cal Poly Pomona suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat at the hands of Cal State L.A. in CCAA soccer women's Friday night.

The loss was CPP's first on the season in five games. The Broncos (4-1, 0-1) now prepare for a game at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday.

Both teams played well, but the Golden Eagles struck with the game-winner at the 42:53 mark.

Liz Franco sent a pass to Jasmin Stuemper, who flicked a pass to Ann Marie Tangorra, who one-timed it into an empty net for the score.

The Golden Eagle defense was tested by some strong Cal Poly Pomona runs in the first half, but goalkeeper Jessie Walworth made three of her four saves of the period. The Broncos, in fact, had the first golden scoring chance in the first minute of the game, but Walworth made a diving deflection to rob Cal Poly Pomona's Carolyn Rubendall. Cal Poly Pomona got a corner kick as a result, but could not convert.

Two shots by Mary Carroll sail high, another by Callie Wilson went high and shots by Britany Garrett and Justine Barclay were saved by Walworth.

Cal Poly Pomona freshman Ashley Salerno made 10 saves, including a pair of diving stops in the second half.
