Broncos shut down in 3-0 loss to No. 4 UC San Diego

CPP sits at 4-5 overall and 1-1 in CCAA

– Cal Poly Pomona had trouble getting on track against fourth-ranked UC San Diego in a 3-0 loss in California Collegiate Athletic Association play Saturday night at Darlene May Gym.

The Broncos were defeated 25-17, 25-20, 25-16 and are now 4-5 overall and 1-1 in the CCAA. The Tritons, who were defeated at No. 2 Cal State San Bernardino on Friday, improved to 10-1 and 2-1.

The Tritons featured a sound attack with six players who had attack percentages of .300 or better. Senior Sylvia Schmidt led the way for the Tritons with 11 kills on just one attack error in 22 attacks for a .455 percentage. Hillary Williamson and Lauren Bradley each had eight kills for UCSD, which has won five of the last six meetings against the Broncos.

UCSD fired .297 collectively with 44 kills, 14 errors in 101 attacks.

Freshman Lindsay Poulos led the way on the attack for the Broncos with seven kills, two errors in 13 attacks (.385). She added a service ace with three block assists.

Poulos leads CPP in block assists for the season (33) and owns a team-best .264 attack percentage.

No other Bronco had more than four kills on the night. CPP fired 19/16/86 on the attack, but had 14 block assists to UCSD's four.

Senior Jasmine Davis had 14 assists with eight digs and a team-high four block assists. Freshman Taylr Kreutziger also had three block assists.

Cal Poly Pomona returns to the court on Friday with a match at Cal State Stanislaus.
