Broncos play sound game in 1-0 loss to defending NCAA champions

CPP stands 2-3 overall

– Cal Poly Pomona played a sound, all-round effort Sunday, but ended just shy of its upset-bid at Cal State Dominguez Hills with a 1-0 loss to the defending national champions.

The Broncos are now 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the CCAA, return to Kellogg Field on Friday with a 12:30 p.m. game against Sonoma State. CSUDH improved to 2-2-1 and 1-1-1.

The Toros' Tyler Petry gave his squad the game's only goal in the 41st minute on a feed from Alex Munoz and Alex Marinez.

The Broncos had three shots on goal – two from junior Tyler Reinhart and one from sophomore Luis Garcia. But the Toros' Marcus Dickerson turned back each shot.

Reinhart totaled seven shots on the day and Garcia had two.

CSUDH out-shot CPP 18-13 and six SOG to CPP's three.

Senior goalkeeper Brad Jones was solid again in the net with five saves.
